FAQ

Questions owners ask

Thirty real questions, grouped by where you are in the process: just starting to look, weighing AI specifically for an AV company, working out cost and timeline, or deciding whether to work with Obsessed AI directly.

Getting started

What is Obsessed AI?

An AI operations company built for AV and home automation companies, and the trades that surround them. It builds AI systems that handle proposals, calls, handoffs and technical knowledge, so the company runs on systems instead of the owner's hours.

Who is this for?

Owner-run AV, smart home and trade companies doing roughly $1M to $10M a year, where one person still sits in every decision. Below $1M the math rarely works. Above $10M there's usually already a management layer.

What happens on the discovery call?

Thirty minutes exploring what's costing you time or money: proposals, calls, handoffs, knowledge, scheduling. No formal analysis, no pitch deck, no pressure to buy anything on the call itself.

Do I need to know anything about AI before I call?

No. Most owners who call have used ChatGPT a handful of times, if that. The call is about your business, not AI theory.

What if I'm not sure what's broken in my business?

That's normal, and it's what the call is for. Most owners feel busy everywhere and can't point to the specific leak. Naming it is the first outcome of the conversation.

How is this different from hiring an IT consultant?

An IT consultant fixes infrastructure. Obsessed AI builds systems that do work your team currently does manually: drafting proposals, answering calls, capturing change orders. It's closer to hiring a very fast, very consistent employee than fixing a network.

Can I start small before committing to a bigger system?

Yes. Most engagements start with one system, proposals or call handling are common first picks, proven before anything larger gets discussed. Expanding into a second or third system only happens once the first one is working.

What do I need to have ready before we talk?

Nothing formal. A rough sense of where your time or your team's time goes each week is enough to have a useful conversation. If you have numbers on proposal turnaround or call volume, bring them, but they aren't required.

AI for AV companies

Does Obsessed AI install AV systems?

No. Obsessed AI builds AI systems for companies that do. The proof is VLOX, a smart home integration company built from scratch on these systems. See proof.

What does an AI system for an AV integrator do?

It handles the work that repeats every week: drafting proposals from a walkthrough, answering calls, writing kickoff packets, answering technician questions, following up on open estimates. A person approves the output.

Can AI answer my business phone calls?

Yes. A voice agent answers within 60 seconds, identifies the caller, captures what they need, and books or escalates based on urgency, around the clock.

Can AI build a proposal from a walkthrough voice memo?

Yes. You record a voice note naming rooms, equipment and client wishes, and the system turns it into a scope summary and draft proposal, ready for your review.

Can AI stop my install team from reverse-engineering the sale?

That's what a structured handoff system is for. It forces rack location, attic access and client preferences into writing before the job reaches the install team.

Is there an AI receptionist built for AV and smart home companies specifically?

Yes. Most AI receptionists are built for plumbers and HVAC companies. Obsessed AI's is built around AV-specific calls: service emergencies, theater rooms down, shading questions.

Can AI help my senior tech stop being the only source of answers?

Yes. A knowledge base trained on your job history and service notes lets any tech pull the documented answer instead of calling the one person who remembers it.

Does AI replace my salesperson?

No. It removes the rebuilding-from-scratch part of the job, scope capture, first-draft proposals, so a salesperson spends more time selling instead of formatting documents at night.

Costs and time

What does it cost?

A setup fee plus a monthly retainer, sized to the system. Ongoing management starts at $1,500 a month. The exact number comes out of the discovery call, not a price list.

Is there a cheaper starting point than a full system?

Yes. A single focused system, like proposal drafting or call answering, costs less than a full business-wide build and is where most engagements start. You can prove the value on one leak before touching the rest of the business.

How long before I see results?

The first system, usually proposals or call handling, runs inside two to four weeks. Everything is tested inside a working AV company before it reaches yours.

Do I need to sign a long contract?

No long contract is required to start. Engagements are scoped to a defined system first, with ongoing management as a separate, month-to-month decision you can revisit any time it stops making sense.

What's included in the monthly retainer?

Ongoing management of the systems already built: monitoring, fixing edge cases, and updating the system as your business changes. AI systems need upkeep, not a one-time install.

Is there a setup fee?

Yes, sized to the system being built. It covers the build, testing and deployment inside your business before the monthly retainer begins, so the system is already working on day one of the retainer.

What happens if the system doesn't fit my business?

Every engagement starts with a scoped discovery step precisely to catch that before real money moves. If the fit isn't there, that gets said directly.

Working with Obsessed AI

Where is Obsessed AI based?

Irvine, California. That's the home base for every in-person meeting, and the address behind the phone number and the schema on this site.

Do you work outside Orange County and Los Angeles?

Yes. In person across Orange County and Los Angeles, and remotely across the United States. Most of the actual work happens through calls and shared documents, so distance rarely changes how an engagement runs.

Who builds the system, you or a team?

Juan Camou owns client strategy, system design and delivery standards personally, with a small team supporting build and implementation as the client base grows.

Has this been tested somewhere real?

Yes. Every system gets built and run inside VLOX, a smart home company built on these systems, before it's offered to a client. See proof.

What size company do you work with?

$1M to $10M in revenue, owner-run, AV first and trades and services businesses as well. Below $1M the math rarely works out. See the full picture on who this is for.

Do you train my team or just hand over the system?

Both are available. Some clients want it built and run for them, others want their team trained to run it directly. That gets decided on the discovery call.

What happens after the system is live?

It gets monitored, adjusted and maintained under the retainer. A system that worked perfectly in month one can start missing edge cases by month three if nobody tunes it, so someone does.

For anything not covered here, the fastest answer is a free 30-minute discovery call. No pitch, no pressure.

Reading about AI is free. Installing it is the work.

30 minutes. No pitch. Leave with a clear picture of where your business leaks time.
