Cowork and Claude just became one tool

Anthropic folded Cowork into Claude on September 16. There is no separate app to open anymore, no toggle between "chat mode" and "work mode." You type into the same window you already use, and Claude figures out whether the job needs a quick answer, a document, a deck, or a design, and builds it right there.

That sounds small. For an AV or smart home shop owner, it is not.

Why this matters to an owner

Most owners bounce between four or five tools to get one deliverable out the door. A proposal starts as a voice memo on the drive home, gets typed into a doc, gets dressed up in a deck for the client walkthrough, and somewhere in there someone opens a design tool to make it look like it came from a real company and not a guy in a truck. Every handoff between those tools is a place work stalls.

This update collapses that into one place. Claude Docs and Claude Slides are new, both in beta, both available directly inside the conversation. Claude Design, which used to be its own standalone tool, now works inside chat too and still stands alone if you want it that way. Ask for a proposal, a one-page scope doc, or a deck for Thursday's client meeting, and Claude builds it in the same thread where you already asked it to draft the email that led to the meeting.

You can edit the document directly, present the deck without leaving the window, and download it as PowerPoint or PDF when the client wants a file instead of a link. Everything shares a link across your devices, so what you start on your desktop between calls is what you pull up on your phone in the driveway before you walk in.

What changed under the hood

A few things owners running Claude day to day will notice:

• Notification settings now have a real choice. You can keep the default, where Claude checks with you before it acts, or switch to a mode where it works through a task and only interrupts you if something goes wrong. For an owner juggling a job site and a laptop, that second mode is the one worth testing first.
• Context carries across. Your skills, your connectors, your project history: none of it resets when you move from a quick chat to building a document.
• Nothing you already built disappears. Existing Cowork chats, projects, artifacts, connectors and skills are all still there, right where you left them.

Rollout, so you know when to look

Pro and Max plans start getting this now, rolling out over the coming weeks. Team and Free plans are coming soon. Enterprise accounts get it on their admin's schedule, with at least 30 days notice before anything changes. It works across web, desktop and mobile.

What to do this week

• If you are on Pro or Max, open Claude and ask it to draft one real document you owe someone this week, a proposal, a scope summary, a follow-up deck, and see what it hands back before you touch another tool.
• Check your notification setting. If you are the type who reads every message on your phone anyway, try the check-in-only mode for one task and see if it saves you the back and forth.
• If your team already has connectors or skills built inside Cowork, confirm they moved over cleanly before you rely on them for a client-facing job.
• Walk one proposal from voice memo to finished deck inside a single Claude thread, start to finish, and time it against how long that same proposal took you last month.
