Claude Now Works Inside Google Docs, Sheets and Slides

Claude is now a sidebar in Google Docs, Sheets and Slides, in public beta on every paid Claude plan. Here is what it does and how an owner can test it.

By Juan Camou, Obsessed AI

Anthropic put Claude inside Google Docs, Sheets and Slides on October 6. It is a sidebar that reads the file you have open and edits it in place. It is in public beta on every paid Claude plan. You install it from the Google Workspace Marketplace.

What shipped

The page is dated October 6, 2026. It describes one add-on for three apps.

In Docs, Claude can fix a sentence or restyle a heading in place. Larger rewrites show up as suggestion cards, and you accept or dismiss each one.

In Sheets, it writes formulas, builds pivot tables and native charts, and adds new tabs. It can also hand data to Python for heavier work. The page's own example is a budget report that flags overspend.

In Slides, it builds new slides that match the deck's existing layouts and themes. It also flags overlapping elements and text that is hard to read.

There are two edit modes. "Ask before edits" is the default, and every change needs your approval. "Accept all edits" lets Claude apply changes without asking.

The sidebar carries the same connectors, skills and models you already use in Claude. Admins can roll it out to a whole domain or to selected groups from the Google Admin console. The page gives no separate price. It says only that the beta covers all paid Claude plans.

Why an owner should care

Most small businesses already live in Google Docs and Sheets. The proposal, the price list, the job tracker, the weekly numbers. All of it is already there.

The old way meant pasting text into a chat window and back. Here the tool is inside the file, so nothing gets pasted. And nothing changes until you approve it.

What it looks like inside a shop

Think of an AV or smart home business that runs on Sheets and Docs.

  • Budget versus actuals. The project sheet has quoted labor and equipment on one tab and real costs on another. Ask Claude to build a comparison tab per job and flag where you went over. You see the overruns before the next job, not after.
  • A messy equipment list. Parts lists get pasted from three vendors in three formats. Ask Claude to clean the columns and write the formulas that total them.
  • Proposal edits. Select a scope paragraph in Docs and ask for a tighter version. Review the suggestion card and keep it or toss it.

Any service business gets the same lift. A landscaper's estimate sheet, a consultant's weekly report, an electrician's change-order log. If the work lives in Google files, this is a shorter path through it.

What to do this week

  • Check your Claude plan. The beta needs a paid one.
  • Install the add-on from the Google Workspace Marketplace and open it in a copy of a real file, not your master.
  • Run one job in Sheets, such as budget versus actuals, and check every number against your own.
  • Leave it on "Ask before edits" for the first week.
  • On Team or Enterprise, have the account owner enable the connectors, and ask your Google admin about rollout.

If you want help turning a job like this into a repeatable system, start with what we build for AV and smart home businesses.

Questions owners ask

Does this cost extra?

The page lists no separate price. It says the public beta is on all paid Claude plans. Check your plan before you count on it, since beta terms can change.

Can Claude change my document without asking?

Not by default. "Ask before edits" is the default mode, so each change needs your approval. "Accept all edits" is a setting you choose.

Who can see my files?

The page says Claude's access matches your existing Google sharing permissions. Still, test on a copy first. Source: Claude now works in Google Docs, Sheets and Slides, Anthropic, October 6, 2026
