Google Opens Pre-Orders on Googlebook, a Gemini Laptop

Google opened pre-orders for Googlebook, a Gemini-first laptop line starting at $899, shipping October 4 with a year of Gemini Advanced.

Google opened pre-orders on September 21 for Googlebook, a new laptop line built for its Gemini Intelligence assistant and tied tightly to Android phones. Five manufacturers ship models starting at $899, with a year of Gemini Advanced included and hardware landing the week of October 4. It is a purchase decision, not a workflow change.

What shipped

Googlebook combines Android's mobile software base with a ChromeOS-style desktop layer, built specifically to run Google's Gemini assistant. Specs run high for the category: NPUs that clear 45 TOPS, as much as 14 hours between charges, and screens that top out at 2.8K OLED. Orders are open now through the Google Store, Best Buy and select retailers, with units on shelves in under two weeks: October 4 domestically, October 5 across Canada, the U.K., Ireland, France, Germany and Australia.

None of that AI access costs extra. Every buyer gets a year of Google AI Pro built into the price, covering 5TB of storage and Gemini Advanced, plus three months of YouTube Premium and Adobe Photoshop. Google is committing to keep updating the software for a decade.

Why an owner should care

This is a hardware purchase, not a new workflow. Nothing here changes how your business runs the way a piece of software might. It bundles a year of a capable AI assistant into a laptop you were probably going to buy anyway, at a price close to a mid-range business machine. If your team runs Android phones, the tie between phone and laptop, picking up a task started on the phone, pulling files across without emailing them to yourself, is a real convenience, not a gimmick.

What it looks like inside a shop

Picture a project manager walking a job site with a phone in one hand and a notepad they never quite fill out. Googlebook's built-in dictation tool, Rambler, listens to whatever gets said out loud and turns it into a structured document on its own, complete with headings and a checklist, so the PM never has to type it up later. A rambling walkthrough becomes a punch list before the truck leaves the driveway. We wrote about a related idea when Google added automation building blocks to Workspace Studio: see Workspace Studio's new automation builder.

An AV or trades owner buying laptops this fall has a concrete new option on the list, alongside whatever machine they were already considering. For more on where AI actually changes how a shop runs, see our AI for AV integrators page.

What to do this week

  • If a laptop refresh is already on the list for a PM, estimator or office hire, add Googlebook to the comparison instead of defaulting to the usual brand.
  • Check that your team's phones are Android before counting on the phone-to-laptop features; the tight integration is built for that pairing.
  • Price out $899 against what you would spend on a comparable machine plus a year of cloud storage and an AI subscription bought separately.
  • Hold off on ordering until the October 4 ship date is closer if the pre-order terms or return policy are not clear to you yet.

Questions owners ask

Is this a workflow change or just a new laptop?

Just a new laptop, with an AI assistant and cloud storage built in. It does not connect to or replace whatever runs your business today.

Do I need an Android phone to get value from it?

No, but several headline features, picking up a task from your phone, pulling in files without emailing them to yourself, casting a phone app to the desktop, assume an Android phone. Without one, you get a well specced laptop with a free year of Gemini Advanced.

What does it actually cost?

Google's own announcement gives one figure: starting at $899. It does not publish per-model pricing for the ASUS, Dell, HP or Lenovo versions, so treat any other number you see as a retailer estimate until Google states it directly.
